Christmas Day

For most middle-class Victorians, the Christmas morning service in the old church was one of the focal points of the day.  It was only after duty done that the presents and the midday meal could be enjoyed.

Among the working classes, religious observation was not so widespread. Tradesmen still carried on business - bakers kept their ovens burning in readiness to cook the local families' Christmas goose or turkey. Even the postmen delivered on Christmas Day !

Happy Days - Christmas isn't Christmas without snow!
